If you had dental implants placed, the general post-operative instructions still apply. Also, please follow these additional instructions:
- Placement of dental implants usually will not create a great deal of pain. If you are able to take Advil®, you may start with the recommended dose to control discomfort.
- Brush the area with a very soft toothbrush in 24 hours. Do not avoid brushing the area. Most times, the sutures used are dissolvable sutures, which will dissolve on their own in 8–12 days.
- If a one-stage implant was placed, you will actually see the metal part protruding from the gum tissue. It is very important for you to keep this area clean. Start with a Q-tip dipped in Peridex™, Listerine®, or warm salt water. Clean only the metal part protruding from the tissue, then you may proceed to a soft toothbrush.
- Avoid chewing hard foods on the implant sites. Chewing forces during the healing phase can decrease the body’s ability to heal around the implant.
